After a splendid 2 weeks of having my Mom stay with us, Nic and I decided it would be in everyone’s best interest, if I were to drive my Mom back home. The girls and Mojo would come too, and we would stay with Nic’s parents for a week. That would ensure that my Mom got home safe and sound AND we would get to spend some quality time with his parents as well. He planned to rent a vehicle the following weekend, drive up to get us, say hi to his parents and friends, and we would head back home the following Sunday.
Cinderella was super stoked about her new frog backpack that she got for the trip!
We said our goodbyes and hit the road.
Side note: it was really hard for me to say goodbye. It’s been well over a year since we’ve been apart. I was having flashbacks to the year in Virginia that he was gone from me, lol!
So without further adieu, I give you…our drive back to Colorado. Although we’ve seen a lot of the U.S., and every state has something gorgeous to offer…nothing (so far) has ever come close to Colorado (although I’ve yet to see the West Coast, the South, New England, the super Northern states, Alaska or Hawaii, lol). Hopefully I don’t offend anyone. I’m just a Mountain’s girl at heart.
It’s starting to look like Colorado…but we aren’t there quite yet.
Last town out of New Mexico was Chama…and it was such a quaint and adorable little town.
My Mom tried to sleep…but she doesn’t trust my driving abilities, lol.
From the time we left, I drove for about an hour ‘til we hit the New Mexico/Colorado border.
There’s always time for Yoga.
Alamosa is the halfway point, so we got out, let Mojo go potty and get some water to drink. We had our bathroom breaks and lunch and hit the road again about 30 minutes later.
Blanca Peak: Elevation 14,345 feet…
Heading through La Veta Pass…
You see that mountain? THAT, is Pike’s Peak. THAT, is my mountain, lol. Not really…I have to share it with like 600,000 other people, but today it is MY mountain! We are officially on Nonnie and Papoo’s street, and it is such a marvelous sight to see after such a long day!
After a 6 1/2 hour drive, we were FINALLY at Nonnie and Papoo’s house. It was a wonderful end to a fabulous 2 weeks with my Mama!
Thanks for coming to see us Mom!!! We love you so very much!!!
We bid her farewell as she dropped us off and said hello to the next Grandmother in line!
The kids and Mojo did great on the trip and were rewarded with some time in the kiddie pool…naked on Cinderella’s part…always naked, lol!
Eventually, Papoo got home from work and was greeted by some very excited to see him little girls…well, one was drying off, lol.
And then they all got back in the pool…haha! It was freezing cold, by the way…poor Papoo.
Well, after a long day of driving and playing in ice cold water…ALL of my babies passed out…
..and I was treated to a nice long, and much overdue, talk with Ma over a bottle of wine. ;-)
And this was our view. I will never tire of Colorado’s sunsets.
Such a beautiful end to a beautiful day. It’s so wonderful being with our family again. I didn’t realize how homesick I was until my Mom came down to see us, and again when we were reunited with Nonnie and Papoo today. We really miss all 3 of them so much (and all our friends here, too). There’s a lot more to come, so stay tuned…
