It’s Memorial Day Weekend, and our friends have made the 7 hour trip down from Colorado Springs to visit us here in Farmington, New Mexico. The day they arrived, we enjoyed some fantastic, hot Spring weather. We weren’t as lucky though for the remainder of their visit. Our daily high’s were in the 50’s, scattered thunderstorms sprinkled our days and whipping winds oftentimes kept us separated in our own trailers (neither of our trailers are really large enough to accommodate 7 people and 2 dogs). They arrived Thursday evening, bringing lots of love, laughter and joy into our hearts and departed from us Monday morning.
The next day, they took a family trip to see the 4 corners. Nic took the girls and I to check out Farmington Lake to ease our boredom.
We had a really fun time off-roading, exploring the lakeside and skipping rocks into the water. This is where he fishes typically, and catches crazy amounts of trout, bass and catfish.
Later that evening, we reconvened after dinner & enjoyed the fire and some drinks together.
My neighbor friend joined us as well & she, Auntie Tiger & I had a wee bit of fun when we had to hit up the local liquor store.
The weather for their visit was less than stellar. It was cold, windy and raining (off and on) pretty much the whole time they visited us.
I guess the cold weather inspired Uncle Jedi & MHG to practice their “ice dancing” moves, lol.
While Nic and Uncle Jedi went into town on a beer run, Auntie Tiger talked me into cutting down my heart stump. I’d be able to turn it into a stool to enjoy and always remember New Mexico (and them) by. Of course, it does need some sanding, staining and protecting first. I obliged, assuming the RV Park would cut it down soon anyways. They’re planning on turning “my” yard into the new tent sites (hoping they don’t start that ‘til next Summer though).
Winter coats and work outs do not mix…
We worked in rounds so we could continuously saw away at it, and every few minutes, 1 of us could still get a break. (Bubba supervised.)
We did all the hard work…and then Uncle Jedi came back and kicked it off for us (he also sawed off the pointy middle part).
Nic wasn’t happy though. I didn’t get permission beforehand from the office and he thought we’d get in trouble. (I can add here that a month later on June 23rd, no one is mad about it…but I still haven’t finished it.)
The rest of the day was pretty much spent hanging out and goofin’ off.
After a marvelous evening of feasting, drinking, and hot tubbing with not only them, but our neighbor friends as well, it was time to get dolled up and bid them farewell. There definitely were some cute, yet sad, faces.
Time to pack Oscar up and put him away (Oscar is their trailer’s name).
“Hey, your brake light’s out.”
“Indeed it is. Guess we’re swingin’ by an auto store on the way outta town.”
And they’re off…
The cold weather certainly put a damper on our visit with them. It sucked. The rain and whipping wind kept us a lot of times separated in our own trailers. Typically by the evening though, the wind would let up, and we’d stoke up a nice hot fire to keep us all warm and sociable. Beer warmed us adults on the inside as well. ;) I think it is awful how Mother Nature tortured us with such crappy weather. Literally, the day they left, it hit the 80’s and was full of sunshine! Hopefully, we’ll get to see them again this summer and hopefully, the weather will go easy on us.
Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedules and also for spending all the big $$$ to come down and visit us guys! I’m sorry the trip didn’t go quite according to plan. I wish we could’ve spent more time together, but I’m still incredibly grateful for the time together that we DID have! It was so wonderful seeing you and we are looking forward to seeing you again in the near future! We love you so much.
